Wednesday night we headed for Harajuku, a trendy neighborhood where teens hang out and shop. Although it was still pretty crowded, we were somewhat disappointed with the scene and the number of shops that were closed. Presumably we had arrived too late to see all the action. Or were we too early?
We rode the subway back to Shinjuku in search of kareoke. After negotiating with a representative on the crowded street (notably, about how many drinks we would have to purchase), we ascended to the fifth floor, paid, and were shown to our private kareoke room.
At first, the kids had some trepidation and we struggled to figure out the controls, the instructions for which were principally in Japanese. But after listening to the same Justin Timberlake song three times in a row (painful), everyone got into it and a good time was had by all. Everyone found songs they wanted to sing and I think everyone was a little disappointed when our hour was up.
